Our rugs are crafted from 100% pure New Zealand wool, one of the softest, strongest and most sustainable natural fibres in the world. No synthetic blends, no plastic yarns, just pure breathable wool.

Every Qaushey rug is hand-knotted, handwoven or hand-tufted by skilled artisans in India. The process can take weeks or months depending on size, design and knotting technique. Machines are used only to transport the rugs.

Our hand-knotted rugs range from 16 to 150 knots per square inch (KPSI). Higher knot counts give a dense weave, durability and rich texture, while lower counts are excellent value with a sturdy, long-lasting build.

Pile height is the length of the yarn standing up from the rug's base. Short pile (5 mm or less) is flat, firm and easy to clean. Medium pile (6-12 mm) is soft underfoot and balanced. High pile (13 mm+) is plush but harder to vacuum. Loop pile, where the yarn loops back into the base, isn't usually counted as pile height. As a bespoke maker we produce the pile height each customer wants.

Light shedding is natural in the first few weeks with any genuine wool rug and gradually stops. We use long-fibre wool, which sheds far less than other wool rugs, so children and pets are not inhaling loose fibres.

We use azo-free dyes for vibrant, long-lasting colour without harmful chemicals. They are safe for your home, pets and children. Natural dyes are used in select limited-edition pieces.

Hand-knotted and handwoven rugs have the same foundation as the rug material, in cotton or wool, with no latex, glue or synthetic backing. Tufted rugs use a cotton backing. No blended or manmade fibres are used.

Yes, our wool rugs are fully compatible with underfloor heating. They keep heat dissipation minimal, which can save roughly 8-13% on energy bills in cold climates like the UK.

Wool naturally repels stains and moisture, making it far easier to clean than synthetic rugs. Small spills usually sit on the surface long enough to be blotted away.

With proper care a Qaushey hand-knotted rug easily lasts 15-25 years and often much longer, far beyond synthetic rugs. Hand-tufted and handwoven rugs have a shorter lifespan than hand-knotted.

Yes. Every Qaushey rug can be customised for size, colour, texture or pattern, and we collaborate with clients on one-of-a-kind pieces for homes, offices and design projects.

Hand-knotted wool rugs are soft, durable and ideal for living areas, with a pile around 9 mm. Hand-tufted wool rugs are plush and quicker to make, best for bedrooms and lounges. Flatweave or dhurrie rugs are short pile, reversible and perfect for hallways, kitchens and high-traffic spaces.

Yes. Wool is naturally odour-resistant and hypoallergenic and our dyes are non-toxic. Long-fibre wool greatly reduces loose fibres that pets or children could inhale. Loop-pile rugs are less ideal for pets with claws.

Yes, though we recommend a rug pad underneath to prevent movement.

No, our current range is indoor-only.

Wool rugs work in low-humidity kitchens but not in bathrooms with high moisture. Jute is not suitable for damp areas.

Hand-knotted and handwoven rugs go up to 6.6 metres wide and virtually any length. In hand-tufted we can make practically any size or shape; one of ours measures 7.29 m by 9.5 m.

Yes. Circular, oval, runner or irregular shapes can be woven to your specifications.

Our design team can guide you. Typically allow at least 20-30 cm of floor border around the rug to frame the space elegantly.

Each Qaushey rug takes weeks to months to craft by hand. You are paying for time, skill, natural materials and longevity rather than mass production.

Pricing includes material, craftsmanship, freight and delivery, excluding import duties for B2B. For B2C UK customers delivery is typically free.

We focus on fair pricing that values artisanship, though we do run site-wide promotions from time to time.

Our rugs are made to order, so we do not accept returns. Instead, for custom orders we make a paid 30 cm x 30 cm sample so you can see the colours and motifs first, and the sample cost is deducted from your final rug price.

Handmade pieces naturally carry small variations, which are not considered defects. Report any genuine defect within 7 days of receiving the rug and we will agree the next steps with you.
